Scam emails target IP owners – be alert, be aware!

24/01/2025

Business owners are being targeted by a new email scam that fraudulently uses the name of registered Australian patent and/or trade mark attorneys, contains false and misleading information, and offers legal services.

Further details on the scam, including an example of the type of notice being sent is available from IP Australia see: IP Australia scam warning notice

Another common scam that targets IP owners includes the sending of misleading trade mark renewal notices, that appear official, and request a payment for attending to renewal of a registered trade mark.

It’s virtually impossible to prevent these types of scams so it’s important that you treat all requests for payments and unsolicited offers for services from third parties with caution to ensure you to do not fall victim to one of these scams
