Grainne is a registered Trans-Tasman (Australian and New Zealand) Patent and Trade Mark Attorney, with significant experience in the biotechnology sector. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, and a master’s degree in Intellectual Property Law.
Grainne worked in private practice in Australia from 2006 to 2009 before moving to an in-house position, where she worked as a Patent Attorney and Director of Intellectual Property for a US based biofuels company from 2010 to 2018. In this capacity she developed the company IP portfolio from start-up, through venture capital funding rounds over US$200M, to commercialisation. With global responsibility for the company’s team of IP professionals and IP portfolio, she has developed a strong understanding of international patent law, with a focus on US, Chinese and European Patent systems.
Grainne is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in numerous technology areas, including biotechnology, synthetic biology and engineering. Her exposure to international commercialisation and the requirements of IP in the business world has provided her with a holistic approach to IP protection, which ensures alignment between a company’s intellectual property portfolio and their business needs. This approach encompasses not only patents, but trade marks and robust trade secret protection.
